Ori Skloot is the co-founder and president of Advanced Home Energy, one of the leading home performance companies providing energy audits and energy upgrades in the Bay Area.
Ori is a licensed General, HVAC and Insulation contractor and has been in the home energy efficiency field since 1998. Prior to his work with Advanced Home Energy, Ori was the Executive Director and co-founder of the Rising Sun Energy Center, a 501c3 organization focusing on energy efficiency issues and green workforce development. Ori has lectured on home performance topics throughout the country and has taught numerous classes for the CBPCA. Ori became the CBPCA Board President in 2010. [Back to Top]

Jon Kaufman is a founding board member and board secretary of CBPCA. He is Executive Vice President of Solem & Associates, a public affairs and public relations firm based in San Francisco. Mark Fischer

Green Home Solutions by Grupe
Mark Fischer is President of Green Home Solutions by Grupe, and CFO and Senior Vice President of The Grupe Company and Marchbrook Building Company. Mark joined Grupe in 1989 and has served in a variety of management positions.
In 2006 Grupe launched Carsten Crossings, its first “Zero Energy” community, located in Rocklin, California. Mark led both the design and implementation of this project, which featured BIPV and energy efficiency features standard in all homes. The project won several awards, including an EVHA Gold Award from the National Association of Home Builders. Building on the Carsten Crossings project, Mark started “Green Home Solutions by Grupe” (GHS), which specializes in performing energy efficiency projects and solar retrofits on existing homes. Mitch Fine
Armstrong Painting, Roofing & Windows
Mitch Fine is a founding member of CBPCA. Mitch is an attorney and the CEO of Armstrong Painting Roofing and Windows, the largest family-owned home improvement company in Northern California (Armstrong is the leading residential installer of polyurethane foam roofing in America). Mitch was the former Controller and CFO of the California Democratic Party and served as Governor Jerry Brown’s Treasurer during his Attorney General campaign. Mitch was San Francisco’s financial expert for the Mayor’s Committee for the Prevention of Childhood Lead Poisoning and is currently Emeryville Unified School District’s business representative on its Citizens Oversight Committee. Christian Asdal
Christian Asdal is the Founder and President of GGR. GGR is leading southern California in home performance, design and remodeling. Christian is a Building Analyst and Multifamily Building Analyst certified from the Building Performance Institute. Christian focuses on improving the contractor community by helping instruct classes and webinars, to leading as Chapter Chair for the San Diego Chapter of Efficiency First. Christian is a stakeholder in various energy efficiency programs and continues to help improve the process for better program delivery to his customers. Christian is a participant in the CA Senate Select Committee on Energy Efficiency with Senator Kevin De Leon. He is involved with numerous sub committees and groups that help promote and encourage the overall home performance industry. Christians firm was awarded the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award in 2011 for their commitment to excellence. Matt Golden
Matt Golden is the co-founder and president of Recurve Inc, a BPI Accredited home performance retrofitting firm and a provider of tablet-based energy auditing software for the home performance industry.
Matt serves on a number of national and state nonprofit boards, including the Building Performance Institute (BPI), National Home Performance Council, Affordable Comfort Institute (ACI), Home Performance Resource Center, and Efficiency First. Matt has been featured in numerous articles in publications including the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, The Economist and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Charles Cormany

Charles Cormany is a co-founder and partner in Beanstalk Energy, a Sonoma based home performance company. He has been involved with home performance contracting since 2006. Prior to Beanstalk Energy he was the Construction Manager of Recurve’s North Bay office until they ceased operation in 2010. Charles has real world experience with home performance upgrades. With the knowledge gained from being involved in hundreds home performance projects, he has a first hand understanding of what solutions provide effective results. Charles is the Chief Operations Officer at Beanstalk Energy and believes that hands-on training in the field is the best way to build reliable crews. He enjoys employing new technologies to improve homes. He is dedicated to providing high quality work with a focus on customer satisfaction. He is a member of CBPCA, Efficiency First and Build it Green. Charles has BPI Analyst and Shell certifications and has worked as a Mentor and Verifier for Energy Upgrade California Program. Devon Hartman
Hartman Energy Strategies
Devon Hartman is now focusing his 35 years of experience in architecture, construction, and strategic business development on the field of Energy Efficiency. He is an expert in strategic business systems development, consumer-facing sales and marketing strategies and energy efficiency management operations in Home Performance. Newly retired from his decades-long role as Co-Founder and President of HartmanBaldwin Design/Build, Inc., he has created Hartman Energy Strategies to form collaborative partnerships with contractors and cities to promote sustainable building practices and the reduction of fossil fuel use in buildings throughout California and beyond: Hartman takes new role.
His award-winning architecture and construction work has garnered over 50 national awards, including the Gold Nugget Grand Prize from the Pacific Coast Builder’s Association and the Grand Prize Design Award from Remodeling Magazine. His work has been featured in numerous articles and interviews including Preservation, Wall Street Journal, Remodeling Magazine, LA Times and HGTV and he has worked in France, Peru, Brazil and Egypt. Devon is a General Contractor, Designer, Developer (VGM Santa Barbara), LEED AP, Green Point Rater, lecturer; consultant; community organizer/educator. Steven Heim

Steven Heim is the President of Western Insulation L.P. a subsidiary of Masco Contractor Services, a MASCO company, which is listed on the NYSE (MAS).Western is one of the leading insulation and weatherization contractors in California. Steve holds the contractor licenses of general, insulation and drywall in the states of California and Arizona. He has been active in the insulation and weatherization industry since joining Western in 1980.Throughout Steve’s 30 plus years in the weatherization industry he has built relationships with the California Investor Owned Utilities while working as a contractor in the Low Income Energy Efficiency Programs. Steve also serves as Regional Operations Manager for Masco Contractor Services (MCS). Tara Hobbs
Solar City
Tara Hobbs is responsible for management of new products at SolarCity, a national leader in clean energy. Tara joined SolarCity in 2009 and worked to expand into new territories and incentive programs before joining the Product Development Team. The solar industry leader launched Energy Efficiency Services in 2010 and has been working to integrate Home Performance into its core business model ever since. Tara manages the market analysis and policy aspect of this rollout as well as developing and managing other product categories including Electric Vehicle Charging and Energy Storage at SolarCity. Tara has been a leader in the Efficiency First, California and has played a major role in the increased involvement of the contractor community in the policies that shape our industry and its growth.

Ken Justo
Ken is co-owner of ASI Heating, Air & Solar with his brother Phil and has been in the HVAC industry since 1974. His experience includes being a business owner for over 32 years. During this time he has performed HVAC service, installation, design and sales as well as most all other facets of the residential and light commercial industry. In the past 32 years ASI Hastings has been recognized by York, Lennox, Rheem, Carrier and Trane for sales and product excellence. ASI Hastings has also been recognized by Honeywell as a top 10 company in the nation for application of indoor air quality products. Ken has extensive energy management skills as ASI Hastings provided energy management solutions for light commercial facilities and restaurants throughout the 1980’s. Ken is responsible for business strategies, sales, marketing and advertising. ASI Hastings is probably the best known contracting firms in San Diego County. This is in large part because of our commitment to excellence in our industry.

Robert Knight
Bevilacqua-Knight, Inc. (BKi)
Robert Knight is President of Bevilacqua-Knight, Inc. (BKi) in Oakland, California. Bob is also a utility program advisor to the California Building Performance Contractors Association. Working with CBPCA, he designed and directed a variety of home energy retrofit programs for California utilities, including Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® and current Energy Upgrade California programs for SMUD, PG&E, and Southern California Edison. Other current activities include a research project for the California Energy Commission to improve the effectiveness of comprehensive building retrofit activities.
Bob has been an active participant in energy efficiency program planning deliberations of the California Public Utilities Commission and the California Energy Commission. He has delivered many presentations and papers on energy efficiency policy and programs both in California and national venues such as ACEEE and ACI. Bob is on the national boards of ACI (Affordable Comfort, Inc.) and Home Energy Magazine, and he was a founding board member of Efficiency First. [Back to Top]
Rayji Powers

As Area Manager for GreenHomes America1, Rayji Powers is responsible for development and delivery of residential sales process, as well as providing direct operational support for GreenHomes America franchise partners operating in the western U.S. region. Rayji is an experienced operations manager with expertise in contractor process including service and sales management. Over the past 20 years he’s provided valuable guidance to multiple start-ups and large corporations—including two Fortune 500 companies. An entrepreneur at heart, he and his wife own several successful brick and mortar retail locations in SoCal. Effective management has allowed the businesses to prosper despite the rocky economic climate over the past decade. Rayji holds a bachelor's degree from California State University, San Bernardino in Business Administration and Finance.

Dave Robinson

Dave Robinson contracted energy renovations for 30 years and served the industry as president of the California Building Performance Association before starting GreenEarthEquities in 2008. He performs deep energy retrofits on foreclosed homes and and is building an Army of Energy-Wise Investors to do the same at GreenEarthEquities.Com.

Dan Thomsen is the President and founder of the Building Doctors, a home performance contracting that is a Building Performance Institute accredited company. Dan received a Bachelor of Science from West Virginia University and a Master of Science from North Carolina State University. He is a Building Performance Institute certified Building Analyst and Envelope Specialist, an instructor and verified contractor with the California Building Performance Contractors Association, a verified contractor with the Home Performance with Energy Star Program, certified though the California Home Energy Efficiency Rating Services and an existing home rater, and a founding member of Efficiency First where he is on the Board of Directors, the National membership chair, on the marketing committee and the Southern California Chapter Chair. Before joining Masco Home Services, Gary has held executive positions at The Home Depot, Builder Marts of America and Coast to Coast Hardware. While at Home Depot, Gary’s decade of service included Vice President of Home Services, Regional Vice President Store Operations and Senior Director of Merchandising.

Conrad Asper is the Executive Director of Efficiency First California, (formerly CBPCA). Efficiency First California is a non-profit trade organization formed in 2001 as an answer to our state’s increasingly scarce and expensive energy supply. Our mission is “to shepherd in a new (building performance) industry and help contractors succeed in this dynamic industry.” As our core business, CBPCA, now Efficiency First California, has been involved in every Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program in California, going back to 2002. CBPCA has been the leading organization in California delivering integrated training and certification programs in comprehensive retrofit topics from building shell integrity and system-based HVAC upgrades to business, marketing, and sales. Our Home Performance with ENERGY STAR training curriculum provides in-depth classroom and hands-on training to successfully teach Home Performance concepts and skills while preparing students to earn the necessary BPI Certifications. Concepts include HVAC systems, attic and wall insulation, air infiltration, duct sealing and moisture control. Our recent merger with Efficiency First allows us to continue this very important work while expanding our resources to promote and sustain the Home Performance industry in California.
